Go to advanceautoparts.com and enter your vehicle's info. Search for heater core and it will show you a pic. Mike
That is impossible without knowing exactly the vehicle you are working on. Basically you just have to remove enough of the dash in order to gain access to the heater core. This is why replacing a heater core is a very challenging repair. It is so very labor intensive and very expensive if done by a dealer. I know of no site that has detailed instructions. Go slow, take your time, and you can do this.
If they disconnected the heater core, it means it was leaking. Get a manual on your car from the parts store and it will show you how to replace the heater core also

I would recommend purchasing a shop manual for that vehicle if you intend on DIY the heater core. The manual will show you step by step how to. It will be worth the investment.
I would like to have a dimgram to show me how to put the hater core out and in on my 94 Pontiac Bonneville
To replace a heater core, first ensure the vehicle is cool and disconnect the battery. Then, drain the coolant and remove the dashboard components as needed to access the heater core. Disconnect the heater hoses and any mounting hardware, then carefully remove the old heater core and install the new one, reversing the process to reassemble everything. Make sure to refill the coolant and check for leaks before testing the system.
I will need the exact year, make and model to help you...............
Sounds like the heater core is plugged. Have a competent garage flush the radiator and heater core, then refill with fresh coolant. Should cure the problem.
Things to check. Is the radiator full? Are the hoses connected to the heator core at the firewall? All vacumn lines connected. When engine warm, feel both heater hoses to see if water is circulating thru the heater core. If you think the heater core is pluged, remove both hoses from the core and try blowing air or water thru it. This will show if it is plugged or not and may point you to the cause. Fill the radiator with the car running as this is the only way to insure the cooling system is full and circulating.
