There is no such thing as GM type-IV. There is Toyota T-IV (which is also used by Ford, Mazda, Daewoo (Chevy Aveo and Epica), Hyundai and Kia) and there is GM Dexron-VI. If you're referring to Dexron-VI, then no, there is no substitute. You don't have to get it from GM but the fluid you buy MUST say Dexron-VI on it. As for T-IV, all multi-vehicle fluids tend to support it (but read the back label anyway) and JWS-3309 fluids also tend to support it (but again, ALWAYS read the back label).
Use Part #88900925 - GM T-IV Automatic Transmission Fluid.here is the substitute for that fluidhttp://www.valvoline.com/products/brands/maxlife/automatic-transmission-fluid/37
Yes, GM T IV fluid is the same as the Toyota T IV. for example, a Pontiac vibe uses the same fluid as the Toyota Matrix. both have identical components from the engine to the transmission. they both came out of the same factory joint owned by Toyota and GM.

T-IV for an automatic.
Toyota T-IV type automatic transmission fluid as stated in the owners manual. Mobile 1 makes a compatible fluid: Mobile ATF 3309 Do not use any fluid that does not meet T-IV requirements.
It would be Toyota type IV or WS fluid. Recommend you purchase from the Toyota dealer. The Toyota dealership parts store can tell you which one is for your model / powertrain. Type IV transmission fluid (possibly Mobil 3309 ATF) Mobil 3309 meets Type IV requirements. Not sure which company and type the WS ATF is. I would assume Mobil Oil as well, but is a different transmission fluid from Type IV.

Automatic transmissions today are very expensive to repair or replace. Each manufacturer has their own specificially formulated fluid for their transmission. Using any fluid that is not compatible may cause serious problems down the road. For that reason I highly recommend you use nothing but Toyota T-IV ATF and no substitute.
The 2000 Olds Bravada uses Dextron iv automatic transmission fluid. The fluid is specific and other types should not be substituted.
Type IV or the newer type IV which is backwards compatible.
