Go to the climate control panel and press the 'Off' and 'WARM' button for 5 or 6 seconds, the fuel data display will change to the onboard dianostics mode. Watch all the code numbers that appear. The same simptoms can occurr if he Power Steering pressure switch is bad, power steering fluid is excessively low, or the power steering pump has gone bad. The problem seems to go away after you have gone a short distance. You should be getting a service engine soon light also. Code E40 is power steering switch open.
