Out of fuel, battery dead, etc. Need more information as to what is going on. It takes 3 things for the engine to run. Fuel, Air, & Spark. Which one of these are you missing?
What to do before starting auxiliary engine?
Every engine makes a sound when starting ... please be more specific.
Depends on the engine. A fuel injected engine will run the fuel pump to prime the engine. A diesel engine might have glow plugs run prior to starting. Some older heavy equipment engines had a gasoline pony engine to get the crankshaft turning prior to starting the engine.
Since it is starting from 0, the engine idle is low.
Yes a blocked exhaust will keep the engine from starting

No, it is not safe to use brake cleaner as starting fluid for an engine. Brake cleaner is not designed for this purpose and can be dangerous if used incorrectly. It is important to use the proper starting fluid recommended by the manufacturer for your engine.
Ignition.
No it will not.
see if starter is starting to go....
There is a chance of it, that engine has glow plugs, starting fluid can explode when the glow plugs come on causing engine damage. Before using starting fluid on this type engine, make sure glow plugs are not plugged in, and can not come on.
