Check your fuse box underneath your dash. I've seen a fuse that was broken and my speedemeter wouldn't work along with my radio and rpm. Just maybe your fuse is broken check that out.
On the Dodge Caravan, were the trip button is take a small plastic coated bendable wire tie (like those found on toys) and stick it into the opening around the trip button. Then push the needle back to zero and it should stay.
Careful with the above solution - Lots of work and could result in damage. Here's another solution that fixed my wifes speedo/tach wraparound problem in 10 seconds...
1. Press and hold the odometer reset button (post) 2. Put key in ignition and turn to run (NOT START). 3. When needles begin to move, release the odomoter reset button (post). Voila - speed and tach are reset to 0 on the correct side of pin.
This is often caused by a voltage surge. If this has happened at the same time as a bad start or other eletrical problems, I would suggest a AVR test to check the batter/ alternator/ starter.

A variation on this worked on my 2004 Dodge Caravan. I held in the trip reset button and turned on the key, then released the button, but the gauges didn't reset. I then held the reset button and turned the key off. The trip display turned to a text field which said "5of5" I released and then pressed the reset again and the trip display changed to an error code. One more release and press resulted in all the gauge area text displays lighting up in a self test, then the gauges deflected to full deflection then reset to their home position, fixing my speedometer needle problem in the process.

This has happened several times to me... Turn Key to OFF position Hold in the Trip Odometer Reset Button Turn Key to ON This will force a instrument panel self check and the speedometer needle will correct its self. If that doesn't work the dealer can recalibrate the cluster to get the needle in the proper place.
I know the dealer ship scan tool can be used to reset the speedometer.
try replaceing the tact guage or the tact cable.
To remove the needle from a Spalding pump, first ensure the pump is not under pressure. Hold the pump firmly and twist the needle counterclockwise to unscrew it from the valve. If it’s stuck, apply gentle pressure while turning to loosen it. Once removed, check the needle for any damage before storing or replacing it.
To change the fuse for the speedometer on a 2001 Mazda Tribute, first, locate the fuse box, which is typically found under the dashboard near the driver's side. Use the diagram on the fuse box cover to identify the correct fuse related to the speedometer. Carefully remove the old fuse using fuse pullers or a pair of needle-nose pliers and replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage. Finally, check to ensure the speedometer is functioning properly after the replacement.
If it is a cable driven system, usually a jerky needle is caused by a dry cable, either replace or lube the cable as it is getting stuck and stopping for a second then getting unstuck and jumping back to current speed. If it is an electronic speedo then it could be a loose connection under the car, usually they tie into the transmission to get speed input. Or could be as worse as a faulty speedo in the dash.
It is probably a stuck needle valve for the float. Look under the carburetor for a round metal bowl with a bolt on the bottom. Unscrew the bolt and try to move the float up with your finger.

If the speedometer breaks, it effects the odometer. Check the speedometer cable it may be broken, even under the insulation.
If its a digital speedometer, probably under dash. If its analog, its cable and wheel driven--no fuse.
U HAVE TO REMOVE THE SPEEDOMETER FACE PLATE, AND REMOVE THE SPEEDOMETER AND THERE ARE ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE BACK PART OF THE SPEEDOMETER, PD:BE CAREFULL WHEN REMOVING THE SPEEDOMETER THERE IS A SPPEDO CABLE UNDER NEED U HAVE TO DISCONECT THE CABLE FROM BEHIND.
