take the serpentine belt off and then take the crank pulley off the balancer and then you will need a puller to get the balancer off the crank.
There is not much you can do with a bad balancer other than replace it with a new one.
how to replace harmonic balancer 3.4 v6 2001 grand am gt?
You can go to a local parts place and rent a chrysler harmonic balancer puller. I just did mine on a 2001 and it costed 75.00 and when I was done they gave me my money back. It is the only way to get it off.

You dont repair it...you have to replace it.
To remove the harmonic balancer on a 2001 PT Cruiser, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the serpentine belt and any components obstructing access to the balancer, such as the crankshaft pulley. Use a harmonic balancer puller tool to carefully extract the balancer from the crankshaft. Finally, ensure all bolts are removed and check for any retaining clips before pulling the balancer off.

Yes, the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer in place on a 2001 Chevy Malibu is reverse thread. I learned that the hard way and stripped the head of my bolt down to nothing. And the bolt is almost impossible to find, because they no longer make them.
