With the car off, put it into first gear. On the front side of the shifter, there should be a staple. Needle nose pliers are you best bet. Then it should pull right up.

look on the front of the knob towards the dash and you will see a small push in clip on the base of the knob, pull the clip out and the knob will come off. The metal clip is actually more toward the middle of the shift knob. Just use a small flat blade screw driver to slide behind it and it pops right out.

if you have an automatic. put the trans in 1 (with the car off) and look at the the back of the shift knob. there is a thin retainer clip that slides into it. Use a small flat edge screwdriver and pull it out. If youy have a manuel trans i believe that they are either thredded on or the knob may have a cap. pop the cap off and there should be a nut(about 1/2 inch) take the nut off and the knob should come off.
