Should be a plug at the side of the transmission- fill to this level
I have a 89 tracer with a 5 speed manual transmission. When I had the transmission oil changed they removed the speedometer cable from the transmission and filled it through the odometer drive mounting hole. I laughed at the mechanic but he said that was the only way to do it. If there is no other hole to check the oil I guess you may have to pull the odometer cable to check it!!! Hope this helps you out. RG
5w-20 seems to be the norm for cars in that year ... check your manual if you have one -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ( 1996 ) Mercury Tracer owners manual shows ( 5W-30 ) is the preferred engine oil weight
No check , Just drain and add 2.83 qt. ATF in the speedo hole !
A 1995 Mercury Tracer typically requires about 7 to 8 quarts of automatic transmission fluid for a complete fluid change, including the torque converter. It's important to check the owner's manual for specific recommendations and to verify the fluid level after filling, as it can vary slightly based on the condition and configuration of the vehicle. Always use the recommended type of transmission fluid for optimal performance.
To add transmission fluid to a 1997 Mercury Tracer, locate the transmission dipstick tube, which is typically near the back of the engine bay. Remove the dipstick, clean it, and then use a funnel to add the appropriate type of transmission fluid through the tube. Make sure to check the fluid level with the dipstick to ensure it’s within the recommended range. Always consult the owner’s manual for specific fluid type and capacity.
PULL THE DIPSTICK ! * The dipstick is located between the engine and battery on the driver's side.

To add transmission fluid to a 1999 Mercury Tracer, locate the transmission dipstick tube, which is typically found near the back of the engine bay. Remove the dipstick, use a funnel to pour in the recommended type of transmission fluid, and check the fluid level using the dipstick to ensure it’s at the correct level. Be sure to add fluid gradually and check frequently to avoid overfilling.
The 1995 Mercury Tracer with a 1.9L engine typically requires about 6 to 7 quarts of automatic transmission fluid when performing a complete fluid change, including the torque converter. Always check the owner's manual for specific recommendations and ensure you use the correct type of fluid, which is usually Mercon or Mercon V for this vehicle. When checking fluid levels, it's best to do so when the transmission is warm and running.
