The ALDL port is located on the driver's side, under the dash. You will need a GM Tech1 (or compatible) scantool to retrieve codes from either a 1994 or 1995 Beretta. This is because GM was in a transitional period between 1993-1996 to comply with the government mandated OBD-II system. The diagnostic components in those years are a combination of OBD-I and OBD-II parts, and cannot be scanned with a standard scantool.
Unfortunately, unless you know someone with such a scantool (GM Tech1, Actron CP9150, etc.), you will need to go to a GM dealer to have your codes read.
To check trouble codes on a 1995 Chevy Beretta, first, locate the diagnostic connector under the dashboard near the steering column. Use a paperclip or jumper wire to connect terminals A and B on the connector. Turn the ignition key to the "On" position without starting the engine, and the check engine light will begin to flash, indicating the trouble codes. Count the flashes to determine the corresponding codes, which can then be referenced to diagnose any issues.
To reset the computer on a 1990 Chevy Beretta, disconnect the negative battery terminal and leave it disconnected for about 15 minutes. This will clear any stored error codes and reset the engine control unit (ECU). Afterward, reconnect the battery terminal, and the computer will be reset. It’s also a good idea to check for any trouble codes if the check engine light was on before the reset.
