Do not install the shims. Your starter should work fine.
Maybe not aligned properly may have to install shims
How to remove and install the serpentine belt on 1991 Chevy Blazer with AC?
simply disconnect battery neg. disconnect wires from starter. jack and support pass. side, remove front pass. wheel if you would like to have room to work, remove skirt between inner fender and frame. unbolt 2 starter mounting bolts, there will be shims between engine and starter, you will need these for install. lower starter, twist, push, pull (and hold your tongue just the right way) and you have it out. it usually goes back up in the same way. sometimes it will come out the top or bottom depending on the options.
Push it back as far as you can then push it up or pull it down until the "nose" of the starter clears and remove the starter, you will have to reverse the way you removed it to re-install it.
yes you can
You may do this without dropping the starter. Remove the outermost bolt (the one on the passengers side, but only loosen the other bolt. Insert your shim from the passengers side until the shim slildes onto the bolt you barely lossened. Line up the remaining hole in the shim with the remaining bolt and thread it on. Tighten both bolts. You're done. Don't use any more than .45 width in the shims
follow the red wire from the battery
Pull your starter down, the cylinder on top of the starter that the main 12v cable is bolted to is what you are looking for. jr
disconnect battery lift and place vehicle on jack stands unplug/unbolt power wires and mark them pos or neg unbolt the starter from the engine 2 or 3 bolts from either side replace
a bad battery will do this. also make sure the correct shims are used in installation and that the number of teeth on flywheel and starter both match. either of these can make starter hangup and not disengage
the starter is located on the passenger side of the engine beneath the exhaust manifold.
You didn't mention what engine it has but, if you follow the positive battery cable from the battery, it will lead right to the starter.
