SOHC: Single overhead cam DOHC: duel overhead cam it just means if you car is a single can, or twin cam, the SL1 modles are single cam, and the SL2 are duel cam
The SL series came equiped with either a single overhead cam or a dual overhead cam engine. If yours has the single overhead cam, it's the SL1. If yours has the dual overhead cam, it's the SL2. Open the hood, look at the engine and see what's on the rocker cover; if it says DOHC or "Twin Cam", you are the proud owner of a SL2.
The main difference between a 1998 Saturn SL1 and SL2 lies in their engine configuration. The SL1 typically comes with a single overhead cam (SOHC) engine, while the SL2 is equipped with a dual overhead cam (DOHC) engine. This results in differences in power output and performance between the two models.
Saturns 91-02 are distributorless engines and therefore have no ignition timing adjustments.
How do I replace the water pump in my 1994 Saturn SL2 series standard twin cam.
A Saturn SL -- and every S-series Saturn -- has a 1.9 liter 4 cylinder engine. The SC2, SL2, and SW2 have a DOHC (dual overhead cam) engine; the SC1, SL, SL1, and SW1 have a SOHC (single overhead cam) engine.
you have to remove the valve cover , the oil pan and the front timing cover. Then line up all the timing marks and remove the tensioners and guides then remove the cam gears and the chain
Exhaust cam, is the cam that control valve timing on a DOHC, (DUAL OVERHEAD CAM) motor.
Nothing...........there is none.

you can't : On the '97 Twin cam engine the cam chain tensioner depends on oil pressure. I had a problem that with 200,000 miles the chain had stretched farther than the tensioner could handle and had to replace the cam chain.
