To check the fluid in a 1999 GMC Yukon's transfer case, locate the fill plug on the side of the transfer case. Remove the fill plug using a wrench or socket, and check if the fluid level is even with the bottom of the hole. If fluid spills out when you remove the plug, the level is sufficient; otherwise, you'll need to add the appropriate transfer case fluid until it reaches the proper level. Always ensure to use the recommended fluid type for optimal performance.
The recommended transfer case fluid is a SJ-rated 5W30 viscosity oil. One example would be Amsoil 5W30 Synchromesh Fluid. The vehicle requires approximately 1.35 quarts of transfer case fluid.
The fluid level ( MERCON ATF ) should be at the bottom of the FILL hole when you pull the FILLER plug on your transfer case
Manual Transfer case takes DEXRON-III Automatic Transmission Fluid. Automatic Transfer case takes Auto-Trak 11 Tranfer Case Fluid. Auto-Trak 11 is only available at GM dealer.
Change and flush the transfer case fluid immediately.
