At least in the model year of 1971 the correct timing is set with the vacuum hose to the distrubutor disconected and the headlights on (not hi-beam) to 6 degrees... adjust dwell (point gap) before timing.
Ducato 1971 cc 1982-1985 engine code XN1T Is fitted with a timing chain
6 to 8 degrees advanced. for stock compression ratio.
Point gap is 19 The dwell is 28 to 32
That all depended on what engine and rear gearing you had.
