Blend Door Problem
Your problem sounds like the common blend door problem on the Ford Expeditions, and Ford Explorer. The door is on a vertical axis and when it breaks, it can swing back and forth randomly giving heat or AC or nothing. The difference on acceleration is the force placed on the door swinging it one direction.
You can check the operation by fully opening the glove box, removing the actuator motor on top of the plenum box and examining the blend door axle (the actuator is under the unit on top of the hump behind the flexible black plastic cover. It is on top of the unit, behind the glove box in the 2002 F-350 though). Pictures of the common fail signature are available on the Related Links below. There are several "free" fixes that mostly are worth what you pay for them. The solution on the web site is solid and proven over hundreds of vehicles and will resolve the problem once and for all.
you will have coolant in your passenger front floorboard and when you turn your heater on your windshield will fog up
sounds like your heater core went out
I am having the same problem. The dealer wants to charge 100.00 to fix the one post which isn't horrible but I would rather have metal parts so that it doesn't happen again. Do you know what the site is for the aftermarket kit?
no heat front defrost dsah.
The dash has to be removed. Once the dash is out, the top of the heater case comes off to gain access to the core.
On a 1997 Ford Expedition : ( NO ) not on the front suspension It could have the REAR load levelling air suspension
I would first check either the controls to the front heater core or a blocked front heater core. It could also be a blocked or missing heater hose to the front heater core, although that seems quite unlikley.
If one works, and the other doesn't... Switch the relays (right to left) Most probable cause
First have the radiator flushed in case their is trash that is causing blockage in the water system which is about $70.00. Next if that is checked and all is good the blend door could be broke and not switching from hot to cold when the temp select is adjusted common problem on these guys and you can get a stainless steel replacement for the plastic factory at heatertreaters.com $129.00. And if that needs to be done the dash must come out to replace the door. Heater Core could be busted. Ford has a fix now that the water system needs a restricting piece in the line for the heater core so the pressure does not bust the heater cores. to replace the heater core or blend door is about $700.00. Heater cores $40.00. I know this because I just done this to my 98 xp.
There is a cover plate on the front bank of the six that could possibly be the mount for a block heater. I am not aware that Toyota offers a block heater. Maybe.
Heater core could be leaking
