Loosen bolt in tension pulley, then loosen tension bolt. Replace belt. Tighten tension bolt. Last, tighten bolt through pulley.
no adjustment for belt tension ~ spring loaded. pulley mounting (spindle) bolt = 57 ft-lbs.
On the tension pulley above the AC unit there is a tension bolt behind the pulley. Loosen the front nut on the front of the pulley then loosen the long bolt to drop the pulley until the belt fits. Tighten the long back bolt until the belt is tight ( see manf. recommendations on torque ) then tighten the bolt on the front of the pulley.
Power steering/Drive belt Adjustment To adjust P/S belt tension, loosen tension pulley bolts and turn tension pulley using hexagon wrench. Adjust belt tension to specification described in CHECK. Then tighten tension pulley bolts to specified torque. Tightening torque P/S belt tension pulley bolt (a): 25 Nm (2.5 kgf-m, 18.5 ft. lbs.)
First you need a breaker bar and 19mm socket to fit the "tension bolt". Turn tension bolt clockwise to release tension in order to remove the serpentine belt.
The tension bolt should not be removed. The four bolts holding the alternator in place need to be removed, the loosening tension bolt will give enough slack to get the belt off.
Loosen lock nut, turn tension bolt.
Loosen the alternator tensioner bolt. You will be able to slide the alternator either way to adjust the tension on the belt.
It probably has a tension release pully, not a bolt. The pully has no function except tension. Your repair manual probably has instructions on changing the belt and a photo of the small pulley. Mary
You have no "adjuster bolt". You have a serpentine drive belt and it's tension is maintained by an automatic belt tensioner. It is a pulley mounted on a housing containing a "clock spring" that keeps the belt under a pre-set tension and compensates for belt-wear. Looking into the engine compartment from the passenger side you you will see two large bolts and a smaller bolt on the alternator. The large upper bolt is the pivot bolt, the lower bolt is the locking bolt. The third bolt is used to adjust belt tension. 1. Loosen the alternator locking bolt. You may need a breaker bar to free the bolt. 2. Loosen the pivot bolt. 3. Turn the tension bolt counter clockwise to loosen tension, clockwise to increase tension. 4. Tighten the pivot bolt and locking bolt.
