A Geo Prism may run lean due to several factors, including a malfunctioning oxygen sensor that inaccurately reports air-fuel mixture levels, vacuum leaks that introduce excess air into the intake system, or clogged fuel injectors that restrict fuel flow. Additionally, issues with the mass airflow sensor can lead to incorrect readings, further contributing to a lean condition. Regular maintenance and diagnostic checks are essential to identify and rectify these issues.
The Geo Prism is a compact car that was produced by General Motors under the Geo brand from 1989 to 1997. It is essentially a rebadged version of the Chevrolet Prizm, which was developed in partnership with Toyota. The Geo Prism typically features front-wheel drive and is known for its fuel efficiency and reliability. It was available with a range of four-cylinder engines during its production run.
Sounds like a coolant temperature sensor as a guess. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the starter.
The oil on a 1995 Geo Prism is changed by placing a drain pan under the engine, removing the oil filter, unscrewing the drain plug, and allowing all the old oil to run out. A new filter is then installed, the drain plug put in, and the engine refilled with new oil.
Remove the bottom radiator hose. Stick a hose in the top of the radiator. Turn the water on. Allow the water to run through the radiator and out the bottom of the radiator.
You should not try to repair the fulty joint just replace the entire shaft , it will run you a few hundred dollars. ( 200- 400).
just bought a 1993 geo that when you put in reverse it will not run or start after words we have tried many things but no luck what could it be
If your car would run lean the sensor would not be able to determine that and their could be engine damage.
That would probably cause it to run lean.
'cause it's not getting electricity.... you have to determine why. it will only run when the engine gets hot to cool it back down but you have to find out whether the signal is sent by the temp sensor to the fan relay
Could be a few problems, check the following items. fuel filter cap & rotor (faulty) spark plugs spark plug wires (faulty) ignition module bad (they go on these vehicles moisture problems (get ignition dry and spray inside cap and plug wires (problem with geo's) replace above items and car will run fine, believe me I have been through it.
To flush the radiator on a 1997 Geo Prism, start by ensuring the engine is cool and then remove the radiator cap. Place a container under the radiator and open the drain valve at the bottom to let the old coolant drain out. After draining, close the valve, fill the radiator with a radiator flush solution and water, run the engine for about 10-15 minutes, then drain again. Finally, refill the radiator with the appropriate coolant mixture, and replace the cap.
If your car has an idle air control valve that is clogged up with carbon it will generally run with the throttle opened up and stall if it is let off. If you have one try to locate it and sometimes you can tap it with a wrench or something to break some carbon loose, that would be a very temporary fix, but it would verify that is the problem.
