we had this same problem with our 99 sonota....ended up being low on Transmission Fluid.
I'm a Hyundai tech, sounds more like a pulse generator issue.
A 2004 Hyundai Elantra may jerk when shifting gears due to several potential issues. Common causes include low transmission fluid, worn or damaged transmission mounts, or problems with the clutch (in manual transmissions) or the automatic transmission itself. Additionally, issues with the engine, such as misfiring or fuel delivery problems, can also contribute to rough shifting. It's recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
check you grounds and the alternator
Remove the shifting console cover. Remove the shifting light retaining ring. Push the light bulb in and turn at the same time. The light bulb will come out. Reverse the process install the new light bulb.
I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent. The transmission had to be completely rebuilt at 101,000 miles. Prior to that, I had already taken the car in twice for transmission problems.
What makes you think Hyundai's are rubbish there are many owners who are more than happy owning and driving Hyundai's Totally agree, I have a Hyundai Coupe (Tiburon) and have had zero problems with it. Won't exactly set the road on fire, but it grips well (better than my previous Mazda), fuel economy is pretty good and it's cheap to run. BTW, this is the second Hyundai I have bought.
That year of vehicle does not yet have a quick shifting to the next gearing which would make for a poor accreleration. Hyundai's have been known to have slow acceleration they have never really had a quick pick and go. Try to put in a better fuel and you will see the difference!
To remove the shifting console on a Hyundai Accent, start by disconnecting the battery to ensure safety. Carefully pry off any trim pieces around the console using a trim removal tool, then unscrew any bolts or screws securing the console in place. Gently lift the console upward, being mindful of any wiring or connections, and disconnect them as needed. Finally, remove the console completely from the vehicle.
The getz have 1 din from the factory , but you can install the two din with no problems
Sounds like the reverse switch is either damaged, or wired backwards... Did you have your clutch done recently?
Transmission problems.
The P0501 speed sensor on a Hyundai Santa Fe is a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) that monitors the speed of the vehicle's wheels and sends this information to the engine control unit (ECU). It plays a crucial role in various systems, including the transmission and anti-lock braking system, by helping to optimize performance and safety. If the sensor malfunctions, it can trigger a check engine light and lead to issues such as erratic shifting or problems with traction control. Regular diagnostics are recommended if a P0501 code is detected.
The pulse generator on the Accent is not internal. Take the black plastic cover off your transmission, which is on the bottom left. There is one blue? switch attached to wires coming out of the transmission which can be safely taken apart and its connectors cleaned. This often solves shifting problems, at least for a while. Follow these wires and you'll come to the pulse generator, a silver device, also on the left of the car.
