Many Republicans had already suspected informed his generalship from the start.
Because the Democratic Party had split into two factions (North and South) and the Republicans were bound to win the 1860 election, with their first President, Abraham Lincoln, who would not allow the creation of any more slave-states.
Abraham Lincoln was white, so it's not him. It could be Barack Obama, depending on how today's election goes.
That depends on how you care to look at it. Only one President has chosen a Vice President from a different political party, and as it so happens, it was indeed a Republican President who chose a Democrat to serve as his Vice President. During the 1864 election, Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) chose Andrew Johnson (a Democrat) to replace Hannibal Hamlin as Vice President. However, due to the Civil War being fought, the Republican party was temporarily "absorbed" into the National Union Party, and both Lincoln and Johnson were elected as members of that party. Upon the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Johnson served his term as President without changing party affiliation. So, the question can be answered two ways. On the one hand, if you consider life-long political affiliations, then Abraham Lincoln was a Republican until the day he died, and Andrew Johnson was a Democrat his entire life (in 1869, he formally became a Democrat again). So, in that regard, the answer is "Abraham Lincoln". On the other hand, since normal political affiliations didn't apply to the 1864 election specifically, you can also contend the answer is "none" since technically speaking neither Lincoln nor Johnson were affiliated with their normal political parties during that one term.

Because President Abraham Lincoln had won without getting a single vote from the southern states.

He won the election.
The Republicans did not win in 1856- the Democrat Buchanan won the election in 1856. The Republican candidate, Lincoln won in 1860 and so became the first Republican president.

Lincoln greatest victory was his election as President followed by his re-election.
I suppose they were happy with Lincoln as president.
Lincoln's Presidency
The Democrat Party had split into two factions - Northern and Southern. So the Republicans were bound to win.
Well the only issues and problems were the Democratic candidate, and the nomination of the same party that Lincoln had to face. This challenge came from the radical Republicans, those who were commited to emancipation and to "punishing" the south for the war.
1858 was an off-year election. The Republicans gained six Senate seats and 26 House seats , thereby showing greater strength as a national party. Lincoln was defeated in his bid for a Senate seat, but his campaign debates attracted national attention and helped him get the Republican nomination and win the election as President in 1860. If Lincoln had been elected to the Senate in 1858, he might not have wanted to run for President in 1860.
He was elected President in the election of 1860
