As far as I know, never. Germany was never a united country until 1871. Unless you count the Holy Roman Empire (which wasn't holy, roman or even an empire) which warred even within itself. In the short time between 1871 and the outbreak of WW1 (1914) Germany spent most of its resources contesting for colonial posessions in Africa and Indonesia so any invasion of France seems unlikely.

In reality, there was fighting long before this point, but the official beginning of WWII was when Germany invaded Poland. England and France had threatened Germany, stating that if Hitler were to invade Poland that the two would declare war on him. Hitler ignored the threat, and proceeded to invade. In response, England and France declared war on Germany.
