The refusal of the union to recognize these rights led indirectly to the War between the States, 1861-1865.

Adam Smith argues that the government should stay out of economic affairs because he believes in the efficiency of the free market and the concept of the "invisible hand." He posits that individuals pursuing their self-interest ultimately contribute to the overall good of society, as competition drives innovation and optimal resource allocation. Government intervention, according to Smith, can disrupt this natural balance and lead to inefficiencies and corruption. Thus, he advocates for minimal government involvement to allow the economy to function effectively.
The authority in economic affairs should ideally be balanced between the Canadian government and international organizations like the IMF or WTO. While the Canadian government is best positioned to address domestic economic needs and policies, international organizations play a crucial role in promoting global trade stability and economic cooperation. A collaborative approach, where both parties work together, can help ensure that national interests are upheld while also adhering to international standards and agreements. Ultimately, the effectiveness of this balance depends on the specific economic context and challenges faced.
