It was owned by Massachusetts at one point.
principally in admitting Missouri, a slave state, and Maine, a free state, into the Union at the same time, and in regulating slavery in the former Louisiana Territory
The northern-most of America's 13 colonies (New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts) formed her northern border with Canada. Note that Maine was a part of Massachusetts at that time.
Individual freedoms are best protected by state governments.
The customary period now is 7 years.
Yes, Hawaii is a state. Ohio is a state. All states recognize marriages from other states. If they didn't that would mean every married person who moved from states to another state would have to get married each time. Think how silly that would be.
Yes I believe it was!Another answer:No, it was not. At the time of the American Revolution, the District of Maine was part of Massachusetts. Maine did not become a separate state until 1820; it was the 23rd state to join the United States.
No. Maine was originally part of Massachusetts. It was not it's own state until the Missouri Compromise of 1820.
Maine. It was a part of Massachusetts
They were admitted as part of the "Missouri Compromise". Missouri wanted to be a state, but Missouri allowed slavery. Allowing another slave state into the Union would've tipped the delicate balance in Congress in favor of the slave states. So Maine, which was part of Massachusetts at the time, was separated off and made into a new Free State (that is, a non-slavery state) to balance against Missouri, which was allowed to finally become a state.

Massachusetts IS a state. There are no other states within the boundaries of that state. At one time Massachusetts included what is now the state of Maine, but that was split off and made a separate state March 15, 1820, as part of the Missouri Compromise.
Same as New York, or the Northeast part of the United States. Maine is in the Eastern Time Zone
Missouri was admitted as a slave state at (about) the same time Maine was admitted as a free state. So Maine is probably the answer you're looking for.
