What right did colonists say acts violate?

The colonists claimed that the stamp, sugar, tea, and townshend acts violated the right to only be taxed with representation. The colonists had no representatives in the Mother country; this is where the popular phrase "no taxation without representation" came from.

What was the tea tax?

Tax on the export of tea to the British colonies imposed by the British Parliament to increase revenue. It came about as part of a series of Parliamentary legislature known as the Townshend Acts. The first of these acts was the Revenue Act of 1767, also know as the Townshend Act, which imposed export duties on numerous products that the American colonies did not produce and could only buy from Great Britain. This made tea, and the other taxed products, more expensive to American consumers.

How did the Stamp Act affect the Revolutionary War?

because it was between the Britain and American The Stamp Act served as the "last straw" the colonists were willing to put up with from Great Britain and how it controlled the colonies. The Stamp Act was one of the so-called "Intolerable Acts" that Great Britain passed that harshly affected the colonies. The Stamp Act required every document and paper to bear a stamp, like postage stamps, which the colonists had to buy. All of the Intolerable Acts were eventually repealed except for the Stamp Act. Colonists recognized that this was just another way of Great Britain imposing more taxes on them and they objected to it. Great Britain refused to repeal it despite demands by colonists that it be repealed. This was part of the "no taxation without representation" sentiment at the time. King George 3rd insisted on enforcing the Act but this insistence only made the colonists more and more angry with him to the point where the majority of colonists finally had enough and decided to rebel and cut all ties with Great Britain. And so they did.and by the way America won the revolution!!!!! This answer is completely accurate and true, but to answer your question in Laymen's Terms: The Stamp Act only helped to further the reason for America to rebel against Great Britain's tyrannical rule over the Colonies. In this, it gave further evidence to the Colonial Rebels to secede from Great Britain for what oppresions they were having to deal with.

What action the most effect on getting the British government to repeal the townshend and stamp acts?

The act was finally repealed and replaced by the Declaratory Act, mainly due to colonial boycotts of the British goods taxed under the Stamp Act. --- The "Stamp Act" was passed in March and the "Sons of Liberty" were formed in July; the Sons of Liberty used violence and intimidation to force tax collectors to resign or quit. The "Stamp Act Congress" was formed in October, but only presented a petition to the King to repeal the act, which he did so in March of the following year. The Townshend act was opposed by the "Sons of Liberty" as well, and involved at least three armed conflicts (of notable size); most noted is the Boston Massacre.

Why did the British think the colonists would tolerate the Townshend Act when they did not tolerate the Stamp Act?

The British falsely believed that the colonists had objected to the Stamp Act of 1766 because it was a direct on internal tax. Therefore, they believed colonists would accept external or indirect taxes on imports. The Townshend Acts imposed new duties on products such as tea, lead and paint.

Why did the british Parliament pass the townshend act?

The Townshend Acts applied duties (taxes) to paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea imported by the colonies. Townshend had studied the colonist's distinction between internal and external taxes and he believed his duties were external as none of the products, except tea, could be made in the colonies. The colonists did not agree with his thinking and the result was a colonial boycott against British products. Trade between England and America fell off by 50 percent as a result of the boycott. The British merchants complained to Parliament who repealed the Townshend Duties except the tax on tea.Because he would'nt make colonists pay for soilderssBasically, the Britain put taxes on tea, glass, led, paper, and in some placessugar, but the colonist got mad and that is basically what is is...... Sorry icant help much =(to pay services in the coloniesthe townshend act was started in order to avoid various problems of the stamp act. The new taxes only applied to imported goods when the stamp act applied to internal taxes, the colonist refused to pay the stamp act tax, terefore the townshend act was started-Suzy T.

Why did the colonists throw things at the British in the Boston Massacre?

They were angry with Great Britain for taxing them. First with the Stamp Act, then they repealed it due to boycott, then the Townshend Acts. Which raised more boycott with the angry colonists. They were throwing this first at a British officer, then a small army came. The general told them not to fire unless he commanded. They fired anyways... and as the court ruled, "Because they were only nervous and did it for defense." Those are not the exact words. But that is why, but I learned this in S.S. and soon you probably will!
