Gunning Bedford Jr. thought that slaves should not count in the state population because he was against the act of slavery. After the Constitutional Convention, he used his position as the Federal District Judge of Delaware to abolish slavery.

A reasonable guess is that because slavery was already controversial, the portions of the constitution dealing with slaves and the slave trade used the euphemistic terms "other persons" (Article I, Section 2, Clause 3) or "such persons" (Article I, Section 9). Article 4, Section 2, Clause 3 also make oblique reference to slavery by requiring: No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due. "held to Service or Labour" was a reference to slavery, although it could also have been used to enforce indentured servitude. James Madison supposed inserted these semantic changes to avoid directly stating that people could be property. The anti-slavery representatives were mollified by not formally accepting that people could be property. Pro-slavery were mollified by the indirect acceptance of slavery.
The Union wanted to abolish slavery because it was cruel to the slaves. Many of the slaves would die because the slave owners would work them all day in the draining heat(: Hope thatt helps!<3 p.s. Jesus loves you!<3
No, the Constitution not only did not abolish slavery but supported it in its current state at the time. It even gave slave states an advantage in the House of Representatives and the Electoral College by counting slaves as 3/5ths of a person but denying them a vote.

They didn't like Lincoln because he was against slavery and wanted to abolish it. They also didnt like Lincoln because he issued the Emancipation Proclamation setting the slaves in rebellious southern states free. Hoped this helped! <3
Harriet Beecher Stowe was a very spiritual person, with a great faith in God. Her plea to Northerners was to erase slavery by doing the following:1. Personal conversion to be intolerant to slavery; 2. Pray to God for the end of slavery; and 3. To invite their Black neighbors to their white schools, churches and into their homes.

Power. Money is and the south was an agricultural power house. There was a lot of business in the south from around the world and the north felt power was too strong in the south . Especially since the last 3 or 4 presidents were from the south. They knew the people of the north would support any action taken against the south because of money and power , so they pushed slavery to the front. The preachers in the north preached hard on slavery and helped get the peoples support and the rest in history. By the way Delaware (in the north ) was the last state in the union to abolish, cease and desist in the slavery trade. The south was forced to quit in 1865 and Delaware kept it up for a few years after the Civil War had ended.
