'How-to install hayabusa swingarm extensions'

Installing Hayabusa or any Sport Bike swingarm extensions is not as difficult or intimidating as you be think, the team at http://www.ronincycleparts.com will walk you through the process.

Step 1

You must lift the rear of the bike to this I use a motorcycle jack placed under the bike. So remove the side and lower fairings to make sure not to damage them. You will now see the exposed exhaust pipe, lift the jack until is rest on the the exhaust header do not worry you will not damage them. Now gently while supporting the bike lift the bike till the rear tire is just off the ground. Now take a motorcycle strap hook it to one end of the jack then over the bike and hook it to the other side of the jack and tighten the strap until you feel the bike is stable.

Step 2

Now that the rear of the bike is in the air loosen the rear axle and remove it. You may need to support the tire so that it does not drop suddenly. With the axle removed slip the chain out from over the rear sprocket and roll the wheel out from in between the swingarm.

Step 3

So to prepare for the extensions you must do a few things so lets get started. You must remove the rear caliper and brake line. This is so that it can be replaced with a longer one to compensate for the stretch. The same goes for the chain. The chain will have to be cut off, use a grinde with a cutting wheel this will make the job a lot quicker and easier. Don't worry too much about damaginf the chain since a new one will have to be install again to compensate for the stretch.

Step 4

Ok you have removed all the necessary components so now we can get started with the installation of your new swingarm extensions. Find the left and the right one remove the rear bracket that came monted in the package this is what holds them in place. Now slip the front of the swingarm extensions through the hole in the existing swingarm where the axle usually sits in. Place the bracket on the inside of the swingarm and screw them into the extensions. Remeber to use lock tite so as to have a secure installation and prevent the extensions from falling off. Repeat this process on the other side of the swingarm.

Step 5

More prep work needed. With your swingarm extensions you also received a bracket this bracket will be used to eliminate the brake bar. This bracket goes between the caliper and the existing bracket. So undo the 2 bolts holding the caliper to the bracket place the new bracket in between and and attach with the provided hardware.

Step 5

So now we are ready to reinstall the rear wheel. Put your wheel in position making sure all the necessary hardware is in place. By this I mean axle spacers and the claiper bracket that also acts like a spacer on the right side of the bike. Place one of the adjusting blocks provided with the swingarm extensions on the inner part of the axle. Now gently replace the rear axle ( before inserting the axle lube it with axle grease you do not want the rear tire locking up on you and you may need someone to assist you in installing the rear axle since you will have play around a bit to get all the components lined up) One more side note do not force the axle into place it should go in smoothly as to not cause any damage to the wheel bearings. Do not tighten at this point you will have to adjust it once the chain is installed.

Step 6

Chain installation. Remove the engine sprocket cover 3 bolts and the shift lever as it is in the way of the cover, Making sure the bike is in neutral first. Take the new chain slide it over the top of the rear sprocket and feed it into the engine sprocket and meeting up to the other end at the outer side of the wheel sprocket. Place the rear wheel in its aproximate final position so that you can measure and mark the chain with a marker. Remove the chain and place it in a vise being carefull not to overtighten and damage the chain. Using the grinder with the cutting wheel cut the chain to length. Now replace the chain as in the previuose steps. Attach the chain link with the apropriate tools.

Step 7

Wheel alignment and chain adjustment. Tighten the adjusting bolts on the swingarm extensions so that the alignment marker etched into the swingarm extensions is the same on both side ensuring that the wheel is centered. Now tighten the axle bolt only use locktite if your bike does not have a castle nut in this case you would use a new safety pin. Be careful not to overtighten the axle as you need the wheel to spin freely. You should refer to your service manual for torque specs for your perticular model. Step 8

Replacing the rear brake line. I like to replace it with a stainless steel line it looks a lot better and you get better stopping since there is no flex in the line. Now that line is replaced ( make sure to use new crush washers to avoid any leaks) it is time to bleed them. Step 9

Reinstall the engine sprocket cover and shift link and you are ready to go. I recommend going over the bike once more to ensure all hardware hase been tightend and securely fastened.
