Without seeing your situation. If you are unable to loosen a bolt then use a longer wrench to put more torque on the bolt head. If the bolt is loose but stuck in the hole use a drift punch and a hammer to tap it out.

do you mean the aluminum bracket holding the alternator broke at the bolt holes? do you know that there should be a steel bracket BEHIND the alternator also? when engine usually replaced, sometimes this steel bracket is not replaced and instead a shorter bolt is used to fasten alternator (3 bolts) to aluminum bracket. there should be a longer bolt which goes from the front of the alternator on the left side, thru the alternator and thru that steel bracket and into part of engine?? this part not clearly understood as explained to me by mechanic husband. he had the same problem and corrected when bracket kit purchased from local Chevy dealer; about $197 in Hawaii. hope this bit helps...

I have a 1989 celebrity and it was quiet easy to change the alternator, done it a dozen times. There should be 1 main bolt in the back on the bottom of the alternator,(side toward cab). This bolt goes all the way through the mount. Then on the front side there should be a bolt that screws into a mount. Disconnet the main battery cable and unplug the wires on the bottom and there it should be loose.

Loosen the bolt on the alternator that is located at the top that is located in a long curved slot. Loosen the pivot bolt at the bottom of the alternator. Slide the alternator forward to gain slack on the belt. Remove belt and put on new belt. Get a crowbar, jam it in front of the alternator, and pry the alternator back being careful not to crush any wiring or bend any fragile metal. Hold the crowbar in place while you tighten the top alternator bolt with your third hand. Check for proper belt deflection. Tighten pivot bolt. If is squeels when running it's too loose.

The crankshaft position sensor on a Chevy Celebrity 2.8V6 is located about the middle of the block beneath the exhaust manifold on the side of the engine nearest the firewall. It is held in by a single bolt through a lug on the side of the sensor. It has an "O" ring for an oil seal, it gets quite stuck in place and can be a bit of a nuisance to remove.
