Perhaps you mean mitred squares? Decreasing in the middle causes a diamond shape (in fact more like ever-decreasing V's) to develop.

# Cast on an odd number of stitches. Knit until you reach the middle three stitches. Slip one stitch, knit two together, pass the slipped stitch over the end of the right hand needle. Knit to the end of the row. # Knit the next row from start to finish with no decreases. # Repeat these two rows until you have one stitch left and then snap the yarn and pull it through the stitch to cast off.

How do jewelers get the diamonds?

Diamonds can be cut with a diamond bladed saw, or with a laser, or they can be cleaved with a hammer and chisel.

How is the value of a diamond determined?

There are four criteria for determining the value of a diamond, and they are called "The Four C's": Carat: How big is the diamond? (measured in carats) Clarity: How clear is the diamond? This is a measure of how many little specks of stuff can be seen inside the diamond (they are called Inclusions). Color: How white is the diamond? The yellower the color, the poorer its quality, and therefore lower value. (unless its a 'canary' diamond, which are supposed to be yellow) Cut: What style of cut is it and how well was the cut done? There are several different shapes that diamonds can be cut into including princess, baguette, etc. If the cut is too shallow or too deep, the diamond will not sparkle as well as it could. A person who is certified in appraising is required to determine a diamond's value, and they use these four criteria. Some of these criteria are somewhat subjective, so it is up to the individual appraiser to give his/her best estimation of its worth.

When and how did Cubism begin?

Cézanne declared he was looking for geometrical shapes in nature. Georges Braque exaggerated these shapes in landscape paintings. When Braque and Picasso got together in 1908, they broke up the subject in small fragments. They then put the fragments together again as if simultaneously seen from different angles. Picasso said this was a way for painting (2-dimensional) to Add something of a sculptural view (3-dimensional).

What is modular knitting?

Modular knitting is a form of knitting that involves knitting small geometric shapes that are pieced together into a larger product. The most intriguing feature of modular knitting is perhaps the varying directions in which the stitches move and interweave with each other. Entrelac, another knitting method, is similar to modular knitting.

How do you knit a diamond?

Domino Knitting, is, I think, what is being sought here. This is modular knitting in which squares with diagonal ridges are knitted together serially. See Vivian Hoxbro's book, "Domino Knitting". http://www.amazon.com/Domino-Knitting-Technique-Vivian-Hoxbro/dp/193149911X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246215513&sr=8-2#

What is the name of a polygon when you put 3 diamond shapes together?

In general, if they fit together without gaps or overlaps at the centre, the resulting shape will be a convex nonagon. If, in addition, the three diamond shapes are congruent then the shape is a regular hexagon.

Knitting arranged yarn into complex shapes rather than straight lines. The shapes can deform, which would not happen if the yarn was linear.

What is the math behind a tesselation?

This is a pattern made up of identical shapes, they must fit together without any gaps and the shapes must not overlap. Multiple regular shapes are squares, triangles, hexagons and dodecagons
