Unless things are VERY strange, it should be the same essentially as was on Suzuki Samurais...yes, it has a belt that goes around the crankcase pulley (front of engine near the bottom), the fan (front of engine near the top), and the alternator. The alternator is set off to the passenger side of the engine bay, and the way the belt is tensioned is by loosening a bolt on the top bracket of the alternator and swinging the alternator toward the engine to loosen the belt and toward the battery & air cleaner to tighten it. Note you may have to also loosen the bolts on the bottom of the alternator so it will 'swing' back and forth. That's the way it was on Samurai's, and I know that Geo Tracker engines were a common swap into a samurai, so I'm pretty sure it would be the same. Hope that helps.
Release the tensioner in the centre of the belt, and see what happens!
you carnt you have tu go to a shop :)
That's a trick question right? Answer, there is no fan belt, the Solara fan is electric. Ok, you were probably referring to the serpentine belt. I went to the Autoparts Warehouse website and looked up the belt for the 6 cylinder engine. The price is about $17 for two brands (on sale) up to about $30 for a brand name. Pricing should be about the same at your local auto parts store. Hint, when replacing the serpentine belt, make a diagram of the path of your original before removing it. That will save a lot of head scratching later as you try to figure out how to route the new belt. Cheers
The pulleys sometimes separate and need replacing. There should be a schematic on the fan shroud.
You can find a diagram of the fan belt positioning on a 1992 GMC 1500 Sierra V8 in a repair manual. Haynes is a popular repair manual and is available from most auto parts stores.
Loosen the component slide it towards the engine to lossen the belt, remove belt. Install in reverse. If the fan is your problem it is held on with 4 small bolts, remove them and the fan. P/S you should be able to work the belt around the fan blades without removing the fan. On_mitch
The schematic should be on the fan shroud. If not find a like car and draw a schematic. If the belt came off by itself, there may be something out of line and you may have to take it to a garage.
how to change fan belt
This might be helpfful. How do you Change a fan belt on 94 prizm?
replace it or tighten it
Hi, The blower fan is under the dash on the right side sort of behind and a little to the left of the glove compartment. Steve H.
Which belt? Fan belt or timing belt? Or is it the a/c belt? The timing belt is the hardest. Let me know and I'll be able to help you. Lee Duncan leehduncan@verizon.net
First make a Diagram of how the belt goes around the Pulleys. Get a 14mm socket and or wrench ( I used a breaker Bar) Find the Tension Pulley, on my 1999 tracker it was silver and faceing the engine on my left next to the Fan Belt pulley. Turn the nut toward tighten ( clockwise) and it will move down taking tension off the pulley. Then work the old belt off an up around the fan blade to remove. Put new belt back on the way you took the old belt off.
If it's anything like a 1996 esteem there is no fan belt. It has an electric fan. Check for a bad relay in the fuse box under the hood first ( they are cheap to replace, about 10 bucks). Then try the fan motor.
This was for a 1994 but try searching here. How do you Change a fan belt on 94 prizm?
just remove the water pump not the timing cover
The 2003 XL7 has 2 separate belts; one A/C belt, and one fan/alternator belt. In addition, there isn't a timing belt as it is a timing chain on this vehicle.
