What kind of car??

I have an 87 Calais automatic with a floor shifter. The console doesn't have to come out. The bezel around the radio snaps into the lower dash with 4 clips. Carefully pry out the bezel and then you'll be able to get to the mounts for the radio. I have pictures of the dash with the radio removed if it will help. E-mail kurt_wy@yahoo.com if you want to see them.
You carefully pry it off. If it doesn't come loose easily from one pry point, move around the edge of the cover and try other places. also you have to be careful as to not try to pry the plastic covering because you can break it. use a flat head screw driver and pry it off. ANSWER: THERE is a small slit on the dome cover toword the passenger side insert a small flat head screwdriver and pop off.{just did mine}
How much 'older'? I have a '78 Bronco. Ignition switch has a bezel ring that secures the switch to the dash. Simply unscrew the ring from the front, then pull switch assembly from the rear of dash. Once it is free from dash there are plastic clips holding the assy together.
It's not easy! You have to remove the instrument bezel. (all of the screws around it) and the plastic piece on the bottom of the steering column. If you have a clock in your gauges you will need a tiny flat head screwdriver to take out the screw that holds the clock adjusting knob on. Pull the bezel out. If you can't get to the blown bulb you have to take out the clear shield. You may have to loosen some of the bolts that hold your gauges in to get to a specific bulb. Hope that helps!
The key element of a compass is the magnetized needle, which aligns itself with the Earth's magnetic field. This needle typically points towards the magnetic north pole, allowing users to determine direction. Compasses often also include a rotating dial or bezel with cardinal points (north, south, east, west) to aid in navigation.
* Disable the airbag system * Remove the instrument cluster bezel * Remove the retaining screws and pull the cluster forward * Unplug the electrical connectors and remove the cluster from the car
# Disconnect the negative battery cable. # Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels. # Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. # Shift the gearshift lever to the 1position. # Position the steering wheel in the full-down position. # Remove the two instrument cluster bezel screws. # Separate the instrument cluster bezel from the instrument panel enough to gain access to the electrical connectors. Disconnect the following electrical connectors: # Rear window wiper/washer switch # Rear window defogger switch # Hazard warning flasher switch # Power E-AT switch, if equipped # Security indicator lamp, if equipped # Cruise control ON/OFF switch # Headlamp switch # Remove the instrument cluster bezel with the switches attached. # Remove the four instrument cluster screws and separate the instrument cluster from the instrument panel. # Position the cluster to gain access to the gearshift indicator. Remove the gearshift indicator from the cluster. # Disconnect the electrical connectors from the instrument cluster and remove the cluster. # The installation is the reverse of removal.
Remove the two screws at the top of the instrument cluster. This will allow you to pull out the entire bezel. Pull out the bezel, and pop the switch out from the bezel.
Remove the 2 screws at the top of the instrument cluster bezel (or dress front cover), carefully pry out with a small screwdriver and set aside. Remove the 4 screws that hold the instrument cluster to the inner dash and pull out. Turn instrument cluster over to access the bulbs for removal and replacement. Twist the bulb retainer to remove.
Remove the instrument bezel.
To access the instrument lights on an '83 El Camino, you need to remove the instrument cluster. Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable for safety. Then, unscrew the trim bezel around the dashboard, followed by removing the screws securing the instrument cluster itself. Once it's free, you can access the bulbs for the instrument lights and replace them as needed.
You have to remove the vent & bezel assembly from below the radio first, then the entire dash bezel from around the instrument cluster & radio.
Nevermind. I found the solution through another question.
The Bezel can be removed by simply pulling it away from the dash. It is held in place by 13 tension fasteners. Place the tilt wheel in the lowest position and place the shifter in low so the bezel will clear them on removal. Use caution if the bezel is cracked as it may break completely when it is pulled off.
You have to remove the vent & bezel assembly from below the radio first, then the entire dash bezel from around the instrument cluster & radio.
1) Disconnect battery terminals to disable air bags. 2) remove radio bezel 3) remove instrument cluster bezel 4) remove kick plates 5) unbolt instrument cluster pull forward 6) push in flat on speedometer cable to disconnect remove cluster 7) disconnect heater hoses in engine compartment at passenger firewall 8) drop heater plenum box 9) separate heater core from box
