How do you pull the steering wheel on a 99 suburban with air bag to replace the ignition lock?

On the underside of the steering wheel you will find two small triangle shaped holes on each side of the steering column. With a flat blade screwdriver you can release the catches on all four of the latches that hold the airbag in. Before you start trying to do it get a mirror and look in those holes. you will see something that looks like a 50 thousands size wire or small nail. That is what you are trying to move enough to unhook the bag. Once you have those four clips relaesed carefully lift up on the bag and disconnect the pigtail to the clock spring. After that just loosen that huge nut in the middle and try to rock the steering wheel off. On some you will need a puller that you can buy pretty cheap at your local parts store. Some parts stores loan or rent them out.

How do you remove a tie-rod end on a 2000 mercury cougar I was removing to replace the alternator and can not get the nut off I have it loose but now as I try to turn the entire bolt turns?

This is a really tough problem. The tie rod end is a ball and socket arrangement with a tapered stud. The tapered stud usually is a force fit into the steering knuckle. What you've done is loosen that force fit and now the whole stud is turning. First, I have to ask if you removed the cotter key from the castle nut before you tried removing it? If not, then that's why the stud is turning. If the cotter key is out, then try using a C clamp to squeeze the stud back into the steering knuckle so you can get some resistance. Also, you can try using a die to rethread the rusted threads on the stud. If all else fails, you'll have to get a nut cracker and split the castle nut. Then you'll have to buy a new nut. Rick

How do you replace the fan belt on a 1968 Chevrolet Impala SS?

The alternator is the adjustment point. Loosen the bolts holding the alternator to the engine and slide the alternator in towards the engine. This will allow you to remove the fan belt. However, if you also have power steering, the power steering belt may have to be removed before the alternator belt can be completely removed. Loosen the bolts holding the power steering pump assembly to the engine and slide the pump towards the engine to remove both belts.
