My 94 Grand Cherokee Limited is in the shop right now for a gas leak, and a broke CV axle. They estimated @ 400 for the CV axle if I dexcide to do it. The shop actually said if I am not 4x4ing, the Jeep would go another 10 years without fixing it, it will just make the noises, but otherwise is ok not to fix????
In most CV axle failures, the outer CV joint usually dries out and breaks, often at the cage. this then disconnects from the wheel. A ripped CV boot speeds up the process by allowing dirt and water to enter the joint.
Inside the joint are large ball bearings that give the shaft flexiblility. Either the needle bearings inside of each ball are damaged or the ball itself is. In either case, the ball will not ride smooth in the hub and cause a clicking. A clicking axle can be run for a while, but it will at some point break or come apart. It should be change as soon as possible.
it is on the driver side just beneath the exhaust manifold. you will need to remove the exhaust or the cv joint to drop the starter
The first and easiest answer is to remove the wheel covers and listen again for the clicking noise. It could be a pebble loose inside a wheel cover or a tire valve stem clicking against the wheel cover. If it's not that easy, and your truck has CV joints, I would suspect a bad CV joint. Look for a torn CV boot.
Sometimes the boots crack in a seam and hard to find. If there is grease there is a rip.
There is no tricks, and no special tools. Just remember to dis-connect the strut at the lower ball joint- that way you won't mess up the camber adjustment.
CV (Constant-Velocity) joint
It can break and possibly cause you to loose control and have a wreck.
how to fit cv joint on ford galaxy
If it is round, it is a cv. If it is a cross shape, it is an u joint.
what happens when cv joint breaks when you are driving on freeway
CV Skjøt
Yes you have two drive axles that use 2 CV joints, both have an inner CV joint and an Outer CV joint
The joint would eventually break possibly with disasterous results for your own safety get it replaced as soon as possible.
CV joint can fail, if the RPMs are fast enough you can tear up the transmission and differential, you will lose all drive power to the wheels and you will be stranded in the middle of nowhere, dont put off getting a cv replaced it can get costly if you break one!
The CV joint in a 2000 Kia Sportage can be replace by roving the tires, axle nuts, and the knuckle bolts on the struts. Next, the CV joint can be removed by placing a screwdriver between the transmission and the CV joint will pop out.
The bellows on a CV joint is the rubber boot that covers the joint keeping dirt and water out, grease in.
CV joint is a Constant Velocity Joint in all FWD cars and most 4WD cars. A cv joint makes your FWD car drive and turn without losing velocity.
