I just got my upper cartilage pierced. How long should I wait until i take out my post and put in a ring or hoop. I have to wait 8 weeks until i change posts but do i have to wait longer for a ring?

Yes, you have to wait 8 weeks before you do anything with it other than cleaning it. The reasoning behind it is simple: your skin and the cartilage need to heal. Taking the post in and out right now can (and often does) introduce infection. Putting in a ring while the pierced site is still tender invites tearing as the ring catches on your hair or on someone's finger.
I'm sure those who pierced it explained all this to you already. Listen to them.

Depends on where you have it done but most places will give you a slightly longer bar to allow for swelling. All mine have been done with a 1.2 mm x 10. However if you have thicker lips they may give you a 12 or if you have thinner lips they may give you a 8. If you realise the bar is too short you can go back and they should change it to a longer one for you.

I highly suggest that you go to a tattoo parlor and get it done professionally. It will cost anywhere from10-40 dollars depending on where you go and if you have an earring to go in it.
