It really depends on what kind of TV your searching for. If you don't really care about picture quality, and don't have a whole lot of money to spend, Panasonic is the way to go. However if picture quality is a big deal, and your willing to spend a little more money, Sony is the better product. Hope this helps and good luck!
One thing is for sure, If you want a contrast ratio(how many ranges of colors that are offered in one pixel(one little pinhead-size on the screen) LCD TV's can hold around 10,000 colors, guaranteed to last for less than 5 years and leave a whashed out image in "fast footage". However plasma tv last for decades (if you don't keep it in heat/moitsure ya know; where you place your old tv should be fine) contrast ratio is over a million per pixel and most importantly has warranies and extended warranties (what dosent?!?)avaiable to last unit you see fit.
I've been ranting, but I choos Panasonic since there are no lead/Mercury in their unit unlike sony! There! I said it!
Plasma's have a very OK picture quality, and once the neon gasses in the unit go out, your out of a TV! I have a sony rear-projection, and it's pictuore quality is fantastic! Once the picture goes out, I put in a new bulb, and the TV is like brand new again!
Yes actually it is because the United states ships them tv also
Check your televisions owners manual to learn how to switch back to 3d mode.
Most all flat screen TVs have HDMI ports nowadays, as long as the tv is 720p or 1080p (it will say on the box) it will have one. Typically Samsung is the best LCD TV and Panasonic is the best Plasma TV, but Sharp and LG are probably the best cheap TVs that will still look good. If you really want a cheap HDMI TV, Dynex (Best Buy brand) TVs are only a couple hundred dollars.
It is depending on which codecs that's installed in the TV. Decoding media is fairly advanced and there are so many different codecs like: AVI, DivX, MPEG-4, Ogg, MP3, Wma and many many more. Look up if your TV software can be upgraded via the internet. Search Google for "Sony Bravia codec update". The function to play video may not exist. The tv can play broadcasts and show info from an other source but not decode video. Soundformats that is supported for the TV are most likely just mp3 and wma. They have chosen music above video because it simple. My tip for you is to hook up you computer to the television and play your movies that way.

The decision to purchase a Sony or Panasonic HDTV is very personal but I personally own the Sony 42inch HDTV and it has been a great Television in our home.
When compared to other brands, LG falls short to companies such as Sharp, Panasonic, Sony, or Samsung. That being said, LG does not produce the best television on the market.
