Some older car water temps do go up on hotter days when sitting at lights and such but should come down fairly fast once you get going again. Almost all modern cars now have electric radiator fans that come on and off randomly when needed.
If the temp goes up fairly fast on a cooler day then you may be low on antifreeze and just needs to be topped off or replaced with new fluid. Antifreeze should be replaced every 2 to 4 years.
It should be fine unless it goes up fast and gets into the red zone (220 degrees or higher) for too long then you may have a boil over of your fluid. If it does it a lot then it could be bad for the engine parts.
Worst case scenario is the water pump may be dying.
my gas gauge doesnt work and i dont get a warning light when about to run out, mine goes to fuel when its about to run out
It goes to the temp gauge which is usually screwed in the head between the manifold on the drivers side, or into the thermost housing on the intake manifold.
MOST LIKLY YOUR THERMOSTAT NEEDS CHANGING.
Year, make, model and engine info would help us help you.
Low on coolant or a sticky thermostat, replace it.
It is the idling sensor on top of the intake
probly bad gauge or loose wire buy a manual gauge one with the oil line right to the gauge nothing is wrong. the guage is supposed to be high when driving. it will drop when you stop or are idling.
Check your cooling fan motor. If it is no good when it goes on it will make a pulsating sound.
Check oil level Could be internal engine parts worn do a compression test Could be a defective oil sending unit Replace with manual gauge to check oil pressure
It is normal for a temperature gauge to go up a little bit until the thermostat opens up and the cooling fan comes on. As long as it is not going out of the normal temperature range it is fine.
Sounds like you are getting engine compression in to your oil jacket.
The temperature gauge on a car fluctuates because the car's thermostat is opening and closing. The gauge goes up when the thermostat closes and the gauge goes down when the thermostat opens.
If it blows warm while idling and cool as you accelerate down the road, the coolant is low and or doesn't have proper mixture for your avg. temperature.
first thing is to work out which part is at fault? I would start with dash gauge, find wire at fuel tank which goes to gauge, earth this wire out to body while having friend watch fuel gauge, if it goes straight to full it mean dash gauge is good but sender unit in fuel tank is probably at fault. Go to car wreckers for s/h part.
This fluctuation is caused by common use. The temperature will be higher when the vehicle is idling because there is no air moving over the engine like it does when the car is in motion.
Why does all the gauge lights come on while driving a 1998 S-10 pick-up.Seems to lose power. Go out and security light stays on.
I presume the engine is running when the car is parked if the temperature guage does not move to the normal position when the car is moving at road speed but goes up when the car is stopped and the engine idling, then more than likely the thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced. If you se that the temperature guage is in the normal position anafter the car has been running a while and the temperature guage then goes down when the car is moving at road speed, then this confirms that the thermosta is bad.
