2 stroke engines are for the most part are used in motorcycles, boat engines, and other small engines. There have been a few 2 stoke engines used in Automobiles but very few and none that I know of at this time. None of the 2 stokes used in these applications even have a battery. Most diesel engines will have a 'glow' plug that gives of enough heat to help get the engine started. The heat generated from the first few revolutions together with the compression from the piston is enough to ensure the engine keeps running. Some modern diesel engines no longer require a glow plug.
