Inside a cover plate on side of transmission. 12 or 16 bolts (I forget-it's a bunch) to take off plate, TCC solenoid is inside.
near impossible to get to without a lift.
Yes, it is built on the starter.
Overdrive might not work on a 1992 Dakota because there is a problem with the transmission. The shift solenoid or a belt is not functioning properly inside the transmission.
It really needs to be diagnoised since it can be a wire or the ignition switch itself.
You should locate and test the solenoid. Most have three connections. There is a large cable from the battery to the solenoid, from the solenoid to the starter and from the start switch to the solenoid. The power terminals to the battery and the starter are large and have large cables. The starter switch connection is much smaller. Turning the key to 'start' provides a low current voltage to the solenoid causing the solenoid relay to close and power from the battery cable to connect through to the starter. If that voltage is present then the solenoid or the wiring between the solenoid and battery or solenoid and starter is suspect. If that voltage is missing then the starter switch or solenoid feed line may have failed.
In the transmission in front of the modulator
Valve cover
The solenoid is on the starter.
Is there a picture of a Starter Solenoid for a Oldsmobile 1992
As with all valve gaskets it is located between the valve cover and the head. To get to it you undo all bolts holding the valve cover on and then pull valve cover off. you will find it on the valve cover/ head contact point.
The solenoid is on the starter.
i would like to remove the backseat from my 1992 chevy cavalier
HUH? Starter solenoid is on the STARTER???
how do you replace ignition switch on a 1992 Chevy cavalier 2.2 4 cylinder
The starter solenoid is on the starter itself..
The starter solenoid is attached to the starter.
could be a rusted out tranny line or a disconected vacumm line.. or possibly the madulator valve went out.. or even more possibly your tranny is shot.. i would try looking at all the lines and if they are all intact try replacing the modulator valve which will cost less than 15 dollars at any auto parts store.. and if all that didnt help it to shift i would scrap it or find another cavalier with the same engine size and do a complete transmission replacement..
