it could be alot of different things, bud. my 89 is doing the same thing and i still haven't figured it out. they say its either the module, or ignition coil. the fuel pump could be bad. a vacuum line could be bad. or there could just be a bad relay.
the front end load bearing or other bearing in the gearbox will be stuffed. when you engage the clutch the gearbox doesnt have any drive thru it so stops turning and then you noise stops.

Probably it has either run out of coolant or the cooling fan is broken. Some large engine cars in really hot weather need a larger radiator fitted so it doesnt overheat....like driving a v8 around town in the summer in Spain for instance.
