Your problem is the ignition switch. Either the switch is bad or if the switch is mounted on the steering column, it may be out of position causing it to only energize the ignition circuit but not energizing the accessory circuits.

Insert the key, turn backwards to the accessory position. Insert a paper clip into the hole in the switch and push while turning the key counterclockwise. The cylinder will come out.

It could be a bad battery, or connection. A bad starter and or solenoid could be the problem, along with an ignition switch to name a few.

It sounds as if you have a defective ignition switch. The next time it happens you need to turn the key slightly. If it starts working then the ignition switch is bad.
