What does a speed sensor control?

A Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) senses the speed of the vehicle. Used for automatic transmission shift points and other electronics. Another speed sensor would be a wheel speed sensor. This one monitors wheel speed for ABS and Traction control.

What happens if speed sensor is not functioning?

At a minimum the speedometer and odometer will cease to function. But most newer cars rely on the speed sensor for a lot of other systems and will activate a 'limp home mode' if the speed sensor fails and could affect things like the ABS system and the transmission.

How do you change a speed sensor on a 97 Nissan truck?

my speed sensor on my hardbody was a simple bolt off/bolt on sensor attached to the abs. It took removing the wheel, hub assembly (which needed packing anyways), rotor and calipers to reach it. good luck

Will the broken speed sensor just suddenly stop during driving?

A Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) can fail gradually or suddenly. At a minimum the speedometer and odometer will cease to function. But most newer cars rely on the speed sensor for a lot of other systems and will activate a 'limp home mode' if the speed sensor fails and could affect things like the ABS system and the transmission.

Can you still use your car even if speed sensor is broken?
