textbooks will tell you that normal heart rates range from 60 bpm (beats per minute) to 100 bpm. It would be expected that a 13 y.o. male would run on the high side as puberty pushes all kinds of hormones through his growing body. cardiologists don't generally get worried unless the HR dips in the 30's or remains over 120 while at rest. if either of those occasions occur it could be hospital worthy. the problem is when you go hysterical and drag your child to the hospital its unlikely his HR will still be 30. 24 hour or 30 day heart monitors can resolve that issue so that's its recorded and can be reviewed by a DR. If your primary DR does not have one of these he can refer you to a cardiologist that certainly does.
