On the 1.8 DOHC GSi model the cam shaft timing sprockets have little marks along the edge of them. The two marks MUST be lined up closest to each other. The marks are very small and you may want to use your fingernail to find them. On the 1.6 SOHC model, the camshaft timing sprocket has the same type mark, but it must be at the 9 O'clock position. It should be EXACTLY on the top plan of the cylinderhead mating surface with the valve cover. On all Storm engines, the lower crankshaft timing sprocket has a small notch. That MUST be at the 12 O'clock position. It will line up with a small little triangle on the oil pump housing.
To set the timing on a 1991 Geo Storm, run the engine until normal driving temperatures. Turn off the engine. With a jumping wire, connect terminals 1 and 3 on the ALDL connector. (look under the compartment on the passenger side, it's a small box). Connect a timing light to the #1 spark plug wire and loosen the distributor cap. Start the engine, letting the engine idle. Aim the timing light at the timing belt cover, the white notch on the crankshaft pulley should line up with the 10 degree mark BDTC on the timing cover. Turn the distributor to line up the marks (if you had previously marked the cap to where the rotor is pointing before removing) After the adjustment is made, make sure the distributor cap is has not turned and tighten up the bolt. Take the jumper wire off the ALDL connector and then turn the engine off.

It was a bit of a pain, but knowing where TDC was the key. For the '92, TDC is about 2:30ish on the crank ... the plasic housing is the key, if you look closely you will see the timing indicator on the back plastic housing. ... They rate the engine an interference engine, so becareful of the valves.

50,000-60,000 miles. Whoever changes the timing belt, recommend buy the kit (not just the belt) and be careful to keep timing marks aligned.
You can set the camshaft timing on your automobile by lining up the timing marks. There will be timing marks on the front main pulley and timing marks on the camshaft.

check both of your pulleys,they have marks on them.
Check the exhaust manifold.
It should. To better check, go to local parts store and check the Haines Manual...is should be for both Geo Metro and Geo Storm, just check that is bolts up the same.
