Follow the cable from the solonlid to the starter and simply take the bolts out and remove it. once you find the starter there will be 3 bolts one on the passenger side 15mm one on the driver side 13 mm and on the driver side there will be a 13 mm nut holding on a ground wire remove the nut and then remove the 13mm stud disconnect the 2 wires connected to the solenoid 1 spade connector and 1 10 mm i think pull the starter to the left and slide it over the front crossmember.
the starter is located under the car on the side of the motor next to the oil pan not sure what side but it is towards the back by the bellhousing.
The starter is on the passenger side under the engine just behind the front wheel. Changing the starter is fairly simple. Once you located it, disconnect the neg battery cable. While under the car there is a wire that just pulls off the starter, then you only have two bolts to remove and it comes right off. Its really easier than you may think. Just dont forget to replug the wire back to the new starter or it wont operate.
The starter is found on the driver side of the vehicle (looking from the front of the vehicle, on the right hand side). If you find the transaxle dipstick, it is towards the back of the vehicle from this point. There are three wiring harnesses attached to a bracket on the transaxle mounting bolts to the engine. This is the location of the starter motor.
trans worn out, get a newer taranny Try running the trouble codes before making exspensive repairs. It may be mass air flow sensor
from what ive read you can switch the starter relay with the horn relay and give it a try.... if she starts and the horn dont work you have a bad relay
disconnect the negative battery cable then the wires from the starter. Remove the mounting bolts and drop the starter down. Try this for Chev S10 problems. Buy the Chilton General Motors publication #28860. It covers S10s 1982-93 from detailing to engine rebuilds, including changing the starter.
If its anything like a 93 all you do is disconnect the battery, disconnect and mark for reinstallation the wires at the starter. Remove the two bolts that hold it, and drop it out. Make sure to hold on to any shims that might be there.
You have to take off the air intake cover and wires from a sensor located in a elbow like joint for air intake assembly, plus 2 bolts at the top . Unscrew the clamps. Now there are 2 ground connectors/bolts on the front of the starter, remove those too. starter are hanged with 2 bolts, one 18mm at the top and the bottom one is 15mm remove those and free it comes. Ford and Mercury's fusible links are usually connected to the battery side of the starter solenoid.
the '93 cougar can swap parts with any cougar between '89 and '96. Since you have a '93, I'm guessing it's an XR-7 (performance) model, so try to find other XR-7's. You can also interchange parts with the Ford Thunderbird of the same model years.
