Bad fuel pump. This should still be under warranty, so have it hauled off to the dealer. the rotor and cap needs to be replaced, I just replaced mine and it started right away...bear in mind that the distributor cap on a GMC sierra 2002 4.3 v-6 is not easy to access...good luck.
Just replaced distributor, cam sensor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil, ignition module, fuel pump, crank position sensor. Still won't run, but acts as if it wants to. Today I'm replacing the ignition switch on the column. So far: used T20 torx screwdriver to pull covers off the column, undone two nuts on the column support to lower it, used 4mm socket to remove inverted torx screws on the covers and the two screws on the switch itself. Though here's the pickle: the switch screws are even smaller than 4mm, so c*ck the socket sideways and spin them off (I'll replace those with a Phillips head or something).
Replacing the switch is not a bad job, just can't buy those inverted torx sockets that are small enough. The manuals are of no help at all, Haynes or the other one.
Also, check the smaller positive cable at the battery. It corrodes and the electronics do not get the juice, yet the starter still runs (on thicker cable).
As soon as my truck cranks, it is going to be traded in..... And I don't care if it is almost completely rebuilt.
If it acts (runs at all for a short period) you are getting spark & replacing all those components (electrical) needlessly. Hold the wire near the plug end (with something insolated) & the spark will jump. If you have spark it's fuel. Check compression, recheck wire order if ok, Check #1 is firing on cue when you crank. Try priming.
Check the power steering pump for fluid as well as make sure that the pump is working and the belt it tight. If the pump is not working then the steering will be hard to turn.
Try replacing the ignition module. It is located in the distributor. This is what gives the PCM the reference to turn on the fuel pump, fire spark, etc.
Well - it could be the turn signal unit in the steering column - if its a high mileage vehicle it may just be worn out. you have to remove the steering wheel and replace the unit - the part on a GMC is about $30 +/-. This may fix the problem.
Is the key correct? Lock smith might be your best course.
The 1998 GMC Jimmy front axle shaft torque specification is 60 pounds. You want to make sure that you do not over torque the axle shaft, as you can ruin the axle bearing.
why would you want to turn it over? you can use jacks, a light and a creeper to look at the bottom, less expensive too!
It is screewed in the engine block over by the starter.

"Snug" will work
I don't understand the question
You replace it when it fails.
