The Articles of Confederation were unable to provide a solid monetary or money system to protect commerce. The Articles of Confederation did not give congress the power to enforce laws, pay taxes or unify the states. Also, the Articles did allow congress to ask for money but never demand it. Now, congress could only pass a law if 9 states approved it and still had no power to enforce those laws on independent states. Also, unlike the state constitutions, the Articles did not provide for a Governor of for courts. Moreover, the Articles of Confederation could not ever be amended unless ratified in a unanimous vote by all 13 states making it hard for congress to amend or change the Articles of Confederation

Unlike the Constitution, the Articles of Confederation was a loose agreement among independent states. The reasons it failed were as follows:

(1) Inability to tax and support a centralized military force

(2) Inability to bind the member states into agreements and form a strong central government.

Interestingly, this is also a main cause for the failure of the Confederate States of America, whose Constitution was based on the Articles of Confederation.

The articles of confederation didn't provide a strong enough government. when the US. was created, they wanted to make sure they didn't have a government that was like the British government, ruling peoples lives. to make sure this didn't happen in America, they laid back on the national government a lot. this did not get much done. disputes between people and states were never settled because the government could not interfere. after awhile, it became clear that the US. could not go on like this. the central government did not have enough power. and so, the constitution was written.

They didn't have the power to tax, or create an army. They relied upon the states for their power, which at most times wasn't given. Under the articles congress couldn't issue a tax or sufficiently create an army, they had to ask/request the states for such resources. The federal government was extremely weak, while the power was in the hands of the state governments. There was no foreign policy, nor any regulation of trade. The executive of the federal government was similar to a prime minister but was largely ignored and had very limited powers.

they has no control over the states, they couldn't tax them, so they had no money. they could ask the states for money but they usually said no. they had no officical army but the little militia they did have when they went for pay they didn't get any money.

The articles of confederation gave too much power to each state and not enough to the central or federal government. For example, the states had the power to tax & set standards for interstate transportation. So a pound in North Carolina could weigh more than a pound in Connecticut, and when that pound of goods was shipped from one place to the other, it could be taxed at each state border therefore the shipping would cost more than the value of the merchandise. And since the federal government couldn't tax it was impossible to build infrastructure to help the economy grow.

the articles of confederation failed to unite the country as one. all of the states were doing there own thing and wasn't listening to the center of government.
