No, I went to auto zone today and they informed me there is no cabin air filter for a 1996 gnc Yukon 4wd.
It is for filtering the air going through the heater/ac system.
The cabin air filter is located directly under the passenger side windshield wiper. All that needs done is a few remove a few screws and the long filer is underneath.

The cabin air filter, in your 2004 Mercury grand Marquis, is located behind the dashboard on the passenger side. The air filter is directly behind the glove compartment.
I would say ( No ) I was looking at the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis Owner Guide and it doesn't show any reference to a cabin air filter

According to most aftermarket filter manufacturers and e-catalog data, it appears the 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis does not have a cabin air filter. Just to be sure, might be worth a call to the parts dept. of any Ford-Mercury dealer to verify.
