Don't fix it, the cake will turn out great with milk, I like it better with milk it comes out very moist.
Cake mix typically contains macromolecules such as carbohydrates (flour and sugar) and proteins (from eggs and usually milk or milk powder). Fats (from added oils or butter) are also present in cake mixes as another type of macromolecule.
Buttermilk has a different acidity than whole milk. If used in a cake mix that calls for whole or 2% milk, a teaspoon of baking soda should be added to balance the acid in the buttermilk.

You can use regualr milk or soy milk.
Put 1/3 of the dry cake mix in a bowl. Add 1/2 the milk and stir to combine. Add 1/2 the remaining cake mix to the bowl, stir to combine. Add remainder of milk to the bowl. Stir to combine. Add remainder of cake mix to bowl. Stir to combine. Cake-milk-cake-milk-cake = three additions, beginning and ending with cake mix. :) Don't overmix your batter, or the cake will be tough.

There are egg substitues that you can buy, otherwise oil sometimes works. Instead of milk, you can try soy milk or almond milk.
Water can be substituted for milk with very little difference in the finished cake. You could also use reconstituted dry milk or canned evaporated milk thinned with water.
You can try replacing milk or oil in the cake recipes with either of those ingredients.
