To replace the water pump you will need to remove the power steering, belt tensioner, fan blade, radiator, and of course the pump, there are 4 bolts on the pump itself they are very hard to reach, just try going dead on from the right. make sure you use a gasket of some sort, to prevent leakage, and to prevent needing to go into here again.. what a pain
You can change the water pump on your 2000 Mercedes E3 20 by first removing the water pump belt. Next remove the water lines. Remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place. The water pump will pull outward and can be removed. Reverse the process to install the new water pump.

The timing belt cover should be right behind the water pump .. So remove the water pump then remove the timing belt cover then remove the timing belt then do all them steps backwards
Drain coolant, Remove air cleaner assembly. disconnect water hoses from radiator. remove drive belt and power steering pump. remove water pump drive pulley. Loosen hose clamps on cylinder head-to-water pump cooling line. remove mountin bolts and water pump. reverse to install. I highly recomend taking this one to a shop but if you feel lucky, this is how to do it.
