You can't make yellow, it's a primary color. It can be used to make another color but not to be made by another one.

When you mix red and green light it makes yellow. This is not true when you mix red and green paint. Yellow paint can't be mixed, it has to be created or bought. Red, yellow and blue are called primary colors. You cannot make them from other mixtures, but rather, you can create all the other colors by combining these three.

Primary colors in light mixing are different, from primary colors in paint mixing.

In color printing, the color mixing of printing ink is done by taking yellow, magenta (a strong chemical pink) and cyan (an almost turquoise blue). They give pure greens, purples and Oranges. Black is added to get darker shades. This system is called CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and I suppose the K is for black)

And when mixing light, you use the RGB system (which is confusing, because it's also used in desktop design and Photoshop). RGB means Red Green Blue. These are pretty dark colors, that give lighter mixing colors. And yes, here red and green mix a yellow together!

For having the most mixing opportunities, you can use a set of mixing colors that includes all these shades: yellow, light red, dark carmine red, magenta, dark blue and cyan blue.
