I just did this in my '86 because the transfer case would not shift I had to remove the shifter and realign the two shifting rods inside to get it out of neutral.
Pull the shifter boot off the floor. Pull up the transfer case boot under the floor boot.
remove the shifter by using a couple of screwdrivers to push down on the ring around the shifter at the bottom and turn CCW (1/4 turn), this will release the spring loaded catches that hold the shifter in (don't worry you will not lose anything). When you extract the shifter you will see the 'ball' on the shift lever, the shifter sheet is what this ball sits on inside the transfer case. It is a cupped shaped piece of plastic like nylon and is often long ago disintegrated and missing, if not, pull it out and put in the new urethane or brass sheet and put everything back together.
Hints: be sure to eliminate any burrs on the shifting ball that will cause premature failure of the sheet by filing them off.

To replace a shifter sheet bushing on a Suzuki Samurai, start by removing the shifter knob and the surrounding trim panel to access the shifter mechanism. Disconnect the old bushing, typically located at the base of the shifter, and clean the area before installing the new bushing. Ensure it fits snugly and reassemble the shifter by reinserting the trim and knob. Test the shifter for smooth operation before taking the vehicle for a drive.
the shifter sheet needs replaced this can be done without removing the transfer case

To replace the shifter bushing on an '88 Suzuki Samurai, first, remove the shift knob and the boot surrounding the shifter. Then, unbolt the shifter assembly from the transmission tunnel and carefully lift it out. Inspect the old bushing and replace it with a new one, ensuring it's seated properly before reassembling the shifter. Finally, reattach the shifter assembly, boot, and shift knob securely.
What is your question?
No, the transfer case 'Shifter Sheet' (not seat) is changed by removing the shifter from the inside of the vehicle. I recommend you get a manual and learn how to remove the shifter. Several are available for free download. It has been a while but from memory I can say that the rubber boot inside is pulled up followed bu the shifter rubber dust boot underneath, then you can push down on the retainer that is around the shifter and give it a 1/4 twist CCW to get it off, the shifter should pop out by pulling up on it. As I recall the knob has to be removed to replace the 'Sheet'.

how to un hook
The square cut-outs in the shifting rods are aligned with each other when you look down the transfer case shifting hole when assembled in neutral. If they are not, use a big flat blade to align them before replacing the shifter sheet and installing the shifter arm.
the pin is broke inside the shifter case. put it in neutral, if possible, and unbolt the 4 bolts holding the case in place. it should take a 12mm. once you remove the shifter, the little pin inside the shifter case should be wiggly. just replace it. i did it when i was 12
