I just picked up a 97 Subaru outback and it was explained to me that (looking at the engine): there's the oil dipstick on front right, the Transmission Fluid (red stuff) back right, and the gear oil (thick stinky stuff) (for AWD) on back left ...way down under some tubes (i can't even find it every time i look)
One dipstick Is oil one is transmission
Most all cars have dipsticks. The fluid is almost always checked when the fluid is warm and the vehicle is in park. You should have two dipsticks. Many will be labeled ENGINE and TRANSMISSION.
Manual transmissions do not typically have dipsticks --I believe that thy run on gear lubricant that doesnot wear out often or escape the trans.
manual transmissions dont have dipsticks. they have a plug on the side. take it out. and stick your finger in there. the fluid should be close to pouring out of the hole.
In pints
On an automatic transmission Jeep Wrangler there are two dipsticks. The engine oil dipstick is on the side of the motor, while the transmission dipstick is at the rear of the engine.
If it is a Manual transmission you do not have a dipsticks.
If you have an automatic transaxle there will be two: One for the crankcase, and one for the auto transmission fluid.
One dipstick is used for engine oil and one is used for the transmission oil. The engine oil is generally yellow and the transmission oil is usually red.
Use the dipstick? At the back of the engine (standing at the front of the car) there are two dipsticks. The one on the left is for checking the final drive (front differential) and the one on the right is for checking the transmission. You might have to look for it, being down under a bunch of hoses (fuel lines, vacuum lines, etc),but it is there.
under the bonnet. it's toward the back and normally white. it is the longer of the two dipsticks.
There a no dipsticks on vw transmissions. They are sealed units.
