I can't say were because I'm yet to look but if you follow the positive terminal it should lead you there.
To remove a starter motor from a Hyundai Excel, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Next, locate the starter motor, which is typically mounted on the engine block near the transmission. Remove the electrical connections and unbolt the starter from its mounting, usually secured by a couple of bolts. Carefully pull the starter out, ensuring you don't damage surrounding components.
In a 1995 Hyundai Excel, the starter motor is located on the lower side of the engine, near the transmission. It is typically mounted to the engine block, close to the flywheel. To access it, you may need to raise the vehicle and remove any obstructing components. Always ensure the battery is disconnected before attempting to service the starter motor.
The Starter motor on a fuel injection Hyundai Pony/Excel is located below the inlet manifold coming from the injection system. It is difficult to access and the only way to get there is by removing the actual inlet manifold.
you're an idiot
how to change starter on Hyundai scoupe 1993 12 valve
It can be found at the back of the engine about half way down the block, you will need to jack the car up to get to it, if you need to change it out. hope this helps.
on the front of the motor under the exhaust manifold
Hyundai recommends SAE 10w40. On a car this old I recommend you use a High Mileage oil.
under the manifold, left side of the motor. 2 bolts is all you need to undo it. You may have to take some hoses off to get to it

Yes , the 1.5 liter , 4 cylinder engine , in a 1988 Hyundai Excel is an interference engine ( according to Gates , they make timing belts etc. )
